Storm Troopers?! Deer?! Seagulls?! West Seattle Youth?! As Cool as the Other Side of the Pillow!!

written by Alan Andersen

Youth ministries informational meeting this Sunday (09.16.07) Immediately following service at Mars Hill Church|West Seattle!

As I ventured on to Mars Hill Youth website and looked at the various blogs, I realized that the last posting by Deacon Nickerson had what looked like a home photograph of a super cool Storm Trooper! As I peered into the dark lenses of the storm trooper’s mask, I realized the storm trooper was none other than the fair skinned, green eyed Deacon himself!!

For those of you who do not have a personal relationship w/ Dustin Nickerson, God forbid, let me paint a picture of the Deacon for you. Mr. Nickerson is one of the most admired leaders Mars Hill Youth has, not to mention most virtuous leaders Mars Hill knows. He is such a high caliber, loving and caring leader, that many leaders as well as youth desire to simply brush the hem of his favorite softball t-shirt, which he wears every Monday. I say that to say this; I can not wait to see how he plans to also pull off being the revered deer/seagull (which is the Ocean Shores trip icon, for whatever God blessed reason. This creature seriously looks like something out of Revelation!!)

I wanted to take this brief moment to let anyone and everyone know about the youth ministries informational meeting this Sunday (09.16.07) immediately following service at MHC WS! As WS Proxy/Crux is on the verge of an amazing hard launch of junior and senior high school mid-week ministry, I wanted to stoke your fire for Jesus the way we are stoked for Jesus, His involvement w/ WS youth ministry and what we believe He has in store for us this year.

Although Jr. high and Sr. high school will be meeting separately, we are very much on point w/ the same mission, to spread the Love and Reality of Jesus Christ to the Community and ultimately the world (Matt 28:19-20). I can not put into words how completely amazed, excited, and humbled we are that Jesus has allowed us (the youth leadership team) to serve Him and His community. We will do this by not only having mid-week programming, but spectacular events, camps, get-a-ways, lock-ins, and just plain, good old fashioned fun all the while giving all glory, honor and praise the our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I hope and pray that all of those from the WS campus who are interested in, or simply wanting to see what all of the hype for Mars Hill Youth is all about can attend the upcoming informational get-together this Sunday immediately following service. This brief meeting (which will be held in the multi-purpose room downstairs) will cover what the entire year looks like for youth ministries and answer any questions there may be. I very much look forward to seeing you, meeting you, and teaming up with you.
