Why I Got Baptized
On September 14, 2007 Mars Hill Church held a mass baptism on Alki Beach. Many of those who were baptized did not get a public opportunity to share what Jesus has done, and is doing in their lives. The following story is a testimony of an individual who was changed by Jesus and baptized that day.
By Amy Schroeder
I have been attending Mars Hill regularly for a little over a year and know God has been preparing me for this stage of the journey. My becoming a Christian was not a wham, bang, hit you in the head affair. Instead it has been a slow, cautious process, allowing Jesus to become the master of my life. I sometimes get jealous of people with these incredible stories of dramatically changed lives, but being the slow learner that I am, it has been a process. I was raised in a family that went to church when I was young but quit out of a bitterness toward ” the church” that I never understood, but got many negative messages about. I realized as a teenager I needed something in my life and started looking into all kinds of faiths including Satanism. I finally decided I could believe in God but not Jesus. In college a boyfriend started taking me to a church that showed me what the gospel was about, and it was at a retreat that I realized I could live my life for Jesus, because He is real and alive. My life since then has been a series of growth and stagnation periods in my walk with Christ, with several turning points to bring where I am today. I am now a Christian with a heart for Jesus, a love for the Word, and a desire to bring the Gospel to all I come in contact with. I am also excited to be a part of a Church that provides opportunities for growth in my walk with Jesus. I praise God for the good work He has done in me, and I thank God for what He will do in the future.

Thank you for sharing, Amy! It’s nice to hear your story.
Thanks for sharing your story, Amy. I love hearing how Jesus brings his people too himself. Most folks become Christians over time, not in a single head-on collision with Jesus. My story is the same. The seeds are dropped on hardened hearts and it is only over time, through the softening of the Holy Spirit, does the soil of the heart allow the seed to sink in, take root and bloom.
Thanks for sharing, Mom! I love you!
