2 Cor 12:1-10 | Strength Through Weakness

Preached by Pastor Adam Sinnett
We hit the pause button on the “Peasant Princess” series this past Sunday and will pick it up again this week. Last Sunday we went a slightly different direction given the unique season we find ourselves in. First, the world economy is down, lay-offs are thick, defaults on home mortgages are at an all time high, and headlines say it is going to get worse before it gets better. There is a tangible tension in the air and on the nightly news. Second, as we’ve been walking through Song of Solomon series we’ve seen our counseling load triple and the redemption groups in Ballard fill-up. All of this is, of course, great because sin is coming into the light, but the ramifications for sin are never easy to deal with, which is what makes sin, sin. That being the case many individuals and families are currently walking through the devastation left behind due to their own and others sin making it a particularly difficult season. Third, recently many health and death related issues have come to the surface this fall in West Seattle – suicides of loved ones, a recent death of a baby due to SIDS, multiple miscarriages, undiagnosed problems with toddlers and the list seemingly goes on. Fourth, I could personally add several additional bullet points to further highlight the trying nature of this season, as I know you can as well, but I will leave those unnamed. That said we’re in a unique and challenging season on many levels on many fronts. It is often during times such as these that we come to realize how truly fragile, weak and deficient we are to get ourselves out of frustrating, trying and crushing circumstances. What is the Christian response to trial, difficulty and hardship? What is Jesus’ word to us amidst it? I believe we get an answer in 2 Cor 12:7-10.
