The Gospel | The Prodigal Sons, Luke 15:11-32

On December 28th 2008, I preached on Luke 15:11-32. In this Sermon, we take a look at a parable commonly referred to as the “The Parable of the Prodigal Son”. We’ll see that this parable is not about one son, but two, and the true main character is the father. Here Jesus teaches us that there are two primary ways to run from God – being incredibly bad and irreligious (as the young brother) or being extremely good and religious (as the older brother). Both sons are motivated out of the same desire to be in control and see their lives blessed though they choose different ways to achieve those ends. Neither son loves the father, neither obeys to simply please him, but the father loves them both and invites them out of their blatant disobedience and empty obedience to experience true relationship with him, for who he is, at a great feast.
