Community Loving Community

By Pastor Cliff Low

I am writing this shortly after receiving a call from my brother, letting me know that my Grandmother just passed away in her senior living home.

I share this because I am writing a story about another senior living home. There is a Mars Hill community group in High Point sharing the love of Jesus at the Providence Elizabeth House. They have adopted this multicultural low income housing for seniors by expanding their community to include those living there. The members of the community group have committed to spend time with the people in the house, which is next to where most of them live and where they meet as a community group. Part of their plan is to have a monthly game night at the facility. The other part of the plan is to be intentional on finding other ways to share, live together with, and love the people in the facility.

For example, last week they attended a birthday party hosted by Elizabeth House, celebrating all the birthdays for that month. One Mars Hill member, Katie, shared a story of meeting a woman named Paulitta, spending the evening with her and having a conversation with her in French. “I love how the Lord works,” Katie, said, “using our experiences and interests to connect us to the lost. I look forward to getting to know Paulitta better and praying for wisdom to share Christ, the True Creator, with her.”

Ryan played Uno with a gentlemen from Vietnam and another woman. The woman just could not believe that this community of believers would even spend the time with them. Ryan just looked at it as a blessing to share life with people that were different, yet who still have so much to offer, because he sees them as image bearers of God.

As I share this story in the midst of processing the loss of my grandmother, I am so thankful that the seniors living at the Elizabeth House are being loved by the members of Mars Hill.

The Centrality of the Cross in Counseling | Redemption

We said last week that the atonement doctrines of ransom and redemption are interlinked. This week I will cover redemption. So what is redemption? Deliverance upon payment of ransom. What is the deliverance? Freedom from sin. What is the payment of ransom? His blood.
