Mars Hill Church | Federal Way Launch

This fall we are launching the next campus of Mars Hill Church in Federal Way, led by Pastor Samuel Choi. This will be Mars Hill Church’s eighth campus and the first campus birthed out of a campus other than Ballard. Understandably, there are lots of questions. My aim here is to address several.

Q: Why plant campuses instead of churches?

Our aim is to do both. Campus planting is simply another bullet in the gospel gun, not a replacement for church planting. We want to see campuses and churches planted as they both serve as local outposts for the gospel in their local contexts.

Q: Why plant more campuses?

Making disciples is our mandate (Mt 28:18-20) and it has been shown that the single most effective way of reaching the lost is through the planting of new gospel works. Convinced of this, the West Seattle campus aims to plant at least two campuses/churches per year. Let us know if you’re interested in being involved with the planting of a future church or campus.

Q: Won’t the West Seattle campus lose a lot of people?

We’re not losing anyone, but sending them to be on mission together with Jesus. We may send up to 200. This will open up seats in West Seattle and force those that call the West Seattle campus home to own the local mission. There are upwards of 100,000 people in the greater West Seattle area who do not know Jesus but are, unknowingly, waiting for someone to tell them about him (Mt 9:37; Rom 10:14).

Q: Why Federal Way?

The need is great. The location is right. The doors are open.

Q: How do I get involved with the Federal Way campus?

There are a number of ways to get involved:

  • Federal Way Launch Info Meeting: On Monday, May 11th at 7:00pm, Mars Hill West Seattle will be hosting this event for anyone interested in hearing more about the Federal Way campus launch and how to get involved.
  • City: Join the City and request to be part of the Federal Way Interest Group (Link is located in the West Seattle group on the City).
  • Email: Send an email to federalway@marshillchurch.org.

For the Joy of All People,
Pastor Adam

The Centrality of the Cross in Counseling | Redemption

We said last week that the atonement doctrines of ransom and redemption are interlinked. This week I will cover redemption. So what is redemption? Deliverance upon payment of ransom. What is the deliverance? Freedom from sin. What is the payment of ransom? His blood.
