Meet Your Pastors

Pastors are men called by God to lead God’s people, the church. The word “pastor” literally means “shepherd” and, in the New Testament, is synonymous with “elder” and “overseer”. Pastors feed the church (John 21: 16-19), lead the mission of the church (Mt 28:18-20), eagerly shepherd the church (1 Peter 5:2), pay careful attention to the church (Acts 20:28), shoot wolves threatening the church (Acts 20:29-30), pray for and with the church (1 Tim 2:1), study and preach the Word for the strengthening of the church (2 Tim 2:15), serve as examples to the church (1 Cor 11:1; 1 Tim 4:12; Heb 13:7; 1 Pt 5:3), and ultimately report to Jesus Christ as the true senior pastor of the church (Heb 3:1; 1 Pt 2:25).

God has currently placed six pastors over His people of Mars Hill West Seattle. Your pastors are called, qualified (1 Tim 3; Titus 1) and genuine in their deep love for you. We are not flawless but we are growing and being sanctified as we practice daily repentance and trust in Jesus Christ. In light of our text this week, 1 Peter 5:1-5, I thought I’d introduce you to your pastors:

Cliff Low, Pastor of Community, labors to see everyone connected in community and for those communities to be on mission in their local contexts. Cliff is married to Hyun Ju and has two young children.

Bill Simmonds, Pastor of Marriage, labors to build marriages around the gospel and call husbands to pastor their home. Bill is married to Julia and has three grown children.

Samuel Choi, future Federal Way Campus Pastor, is currently laboring to birth a new campus in Federal Way this fall. Samuel is married to Carol and has two children.

Tim Beltz serves as the Executive Pastor of Mars HIll Church Global but calls West Seattle his home campus, laboring in his off-hours to equip parents with gospel-centered instruction on raising children. Tim is married to Patty and has two grown children.

Bill Clem serves as a Global Campus Network Pastor but calls West Seattle his home campus, laboring in his off-hours to lead the Biblical Living department (Life Stage, Counseling, Redemption). Bill is married to Sue and has six grown children, four grandchildren and three more on the way.

I gratefully serve as the campus pastor in West Seattle, laboring to lead the mission, develop leaders, plant churches/campuses, and see our church shaped by, for and through the gospel. Jen and I have two young children, Carter and Macy.

For the King and the Kingdom,
-Pastor Adam

The Centrality of the Cross in Counseling | Redemption

We said last week that the atonement doctrines of ransom and redemption are interlinked. This week I will cover redemption. So what is redemption? Deliverance upon payment of ransom. What is the deliverance? Freedom from sin. What is the payment of ransom? His blood.
