Men’s Advance: A Call to the Men of West Seattle

Men don’t retreat. They advance. This year, June 5th-7th, the men of West Seattle will be advancing into the woods to be challenged, sharpened, and called to die – die to ourselves, die to the world and die to our personal ambitions – so that we may truly live. (Mk 8:34-38) Our very lives are at stake. What will you do with yours?

This will be the first Advance for just the men of West Seattle. This is intentional. It’s time for the men to own the mission, lead their families, deal with sin, put aside passivity, repent of idolatry, consider the brevity of life, and be about the good work that God has prepared for us in advance (Eph 2:10). We are trusting God to use this time for the forward progress of the movement on the west side.

What to expect:
Equipping – We’ll explore Jesus’ call to die to ourselves, pick up our cross and go.
Community – Meet, worship, eat, play, study, compete with other West Seattle men.
Woods – Focused time away from home in the woods to get real.
Faith – Jesus will work in and through you.
Mission – Learn from and be challenged by other men who Jesus has placed on mission with you.
Recreation – Basketball, volleyball, hiking, swimming, etc.
Other – This is the category for everything else that I don’t want traced back to me. Trust me, it’s good.

We will be staying for two nights at Lake Retreat, located just 45 minutes southeast of West Seattle. Room, board and materials for the weekend run $100 through May 29th. Do what you need to do to make it happen. If you have questions, need financial help, or can offer financial help, let us know by emailing alan@marshillchurch.org. You can register at this link or via the West Seattle group of The City. I’m looking forward to our time together. Be praying.

Because the Tomb is empty,

The Centrality of the Cross in Counseling | Redemption

We said last week that the atonement doctrines of ransom and redemption are interlinked. This week I will cover redemption. So what is redemption? Deliverance upon payment of ransom. What is the deliverance? Freedom from sin. What is the payment of ransom? His blood.
