June marks the end of our current fiscal year and our goal is to finish well.

From a Mars Hill-wide budget standpoint we need $743,333 between now and June 30 in order to meet our year’s giving target of $12 million.

From a Mars Hill West Seattle budget standpoint we need $117,160 (out of the larger $743,333 above) between now and the end of June to meet our campus’ local giving target.

Large numbers can be difficult to conceptualize, so here’s a breakdown of what this looks like in West Seattle:

West Seattle Giving Need

• Campus Giving Target for Current Fiscal Year = $1,753,023
• Actual Campus Giving to Date (July 08–June 14, 2009) = $1,635,863
• Giving Need for Our Campus Between Now and June 30 = $117,160

West Seattle Giving Trends (7/1/08–6/14/09)

• Total Giving Households = 649
• Avg. Monthly Giving Per Household = $229.14
• Median (Middle) Monthly Giving Per Household = $47.73

As you can see, the median giving number indicates that more than half of everyone at West Seattle gives less than $50 / month (less than a monthly cable television subscription), including many who give nothing. For me, this is the most concerning number. There is obviously much room for growth when it comes to stewardship and worshiping God with his money that he has entrusted to us – now is a great opportunity to do just that.

If every household within the Mars Hill West Seattle family gives sacrificially, cheerfully and regularly we will make our budget. For those of you that have been faithful givers, “thank you”. For those that have not, now is a great time to start. If you are not a Christian, this is family business so it doesn’t concern you though we do invite you into the family of God’s people by faith in Jesus Christ.
