This past Monday we held our annual Fall Member Night. It was a great night filled with vision, song and prayer. The primary intent of our time together was to address how we’re in a season of reinventing ourselves and, in many ways, relaunching as a campus.

West Seattle Proxy is back in the swing of things. After taking August off to be with family and enjoy the last few weeks of summer, the youth came together for fellowship, deep discussion… and a viewing of Hollywood’s newest rendition of the “The Incredible Hulk.” While it may seem that Bruce Banner’s struggle against his “hulkness” does not have much to do with our Christian walk, Alan Andersen, Mars Hill Deacon and Proxy youth leader, disagreed.

This past week Mars Hill Church was devastated to hear that we lost one of our own serving in Afghanistan. Sgt. Andrew H. McConnell was a new husband, a soon-to-be father, a son, a brother to 5 sisters, and a member at Mars Hill Church in Olympia. His life was taken on Monday by an IED while he was on patrol.

This fall at Mars Hill West Seattle everything is changing and, at the same time, nothing is changing. While our worship of Jesus and participation in his mission remain the same, how we do that is changing. We need to meet. Mars Hill Church, one of our members, Andrew H. McConnell, was killed this past week while serving in Afghanistan. Andrew and his wife Sarah (a former member of West Seattle) were married this past December and Sarah is five months pregnant. We ask that, as a community, Mars Hill Church honor Andrew by rallying around his wife and unborn child. We can do that through prayer, service, and generosity.
