What is your role at MHC?
Campus Operations Director, Community Group Leader
Tell us about your family:
My wife, Amie, and I were married in August ‘08.
When did Jesus change your life?
In early childhood I met and loved Jesus.
How has your life changed since meeting Jesus?
I have grown in understanding of truth, repentance of sin, and have received his calling to shepherd others.
Tell us how you came to be at Mars Hill, as a visitor, member, and deacon:
I was invited by a friend to check out Mars Hill services in the Old Paradox on the Ave in the U-District. . . I was often working Sunday mornings at that point, so the evening service times worked out great. A few years later when looking to find a new church, I desired to find one here in West Seattle. After visiting several, I decided to drive out to Ballard to visit Mars Hill. I immediately felt at home. Over the following year, I pursued membership and began volunteering in the Resource Center Bookstore. When the West Seattle Campus opened up, I began attending here.
What is your biggest challenge in this ministry?
As a Community Group Leader, the challenge to lead our large group through the replication process has been huge. I have only caught a glimpse of my new role of Campus Operations Director and feel my biggest challenges there will involve fighting the desire to ‘do it all myself’. . . volunteers welcome!
What is your greatest joy while serving in this ministry?
Working closely with people and helping them grow in understanding.
Please share a favorite quotation:
“Learning is an active process. We learn by doing. Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind.” Dale Carnegie, author of How to Win Friends and Influence People
What books have fueled your thinking or challenged you in the last few years?
“Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis
“Desiring God” by John Piper.
What’s your favorite/preferred genre of music?
Rock – U2, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie
What’s your favorite Seattle-area eatery?
Buddha Ruksa
What’s your favorite scripture?
Proverbs 23:16 – “My inmost being will exult when your lips speak what is right.”
Why?
I love this verse because it so aptly describes the point in which I find great joy – the point when the light bulb turns on as someone grasps the truth of God and begins to joyfully share it back with me and others.
